As the colours of autumn gradually move across Melbourne,
the Carlton Gardens will be awash with vibrant blooms as the
Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show (MIFGS) returns
for its sixteenth year.
Held at the heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building and Carlton
Gardens from 30 March 3 April, MIFGS 2011 is expected to
attract more than 100,000 local and international visitors coming
to see flourishing blooms and landscaping marvels.
MIFGS is the largest and most successful horticultural event in
the Southern Hemisphere, attracting garden enthusiasts, trade
professionals and those who just love the outdoors.
With gorgeous floral displays inside and inspirational landscapes
and designs outside, the superb 130-year-old Royal Exhibition Building
and surrounding Carlton Gardens are sure to put on a grand show
for tourists and locals alike.
The 500-plus exhibitors range from suppliers of outdoor living and
design consultation to floral and garden products and services.
MIFGS Event Manager, Kathleen Rushford, is thrilled with the
number of exhibitors planning to display their creative works
in 2011.
Each year we see great displays of creativity and innovation
in design, with the 2011 MIFGS anticipated to again deliver an
amazing event that will inspire people to get into their gardens,
said Kathleen.

HIGHLIGHTS:
LINDEMANS
The LINDEMANS Open Garden will proudly make its first appearance
at MIFGS 2011. The space will provide visitors the chance to enjoy
the refreshingly lighter in alcohol Early Harvest and Sweet Seasons
ranges of wines, experience garden cooking demonstrations from celebrity
chef Dominique Rizzo and renowned gardener Meredith Kirton and enter
the LINDEMANS Hanging Basket Competition.
Garnier World
Visit Garnier World and discover the brands unique philosophy of
natural, healthy beauty and enjoy a complimentary facial, hairstyle
or massage between seeing the sights of the show.
Garden Design Awards
The annual MIFGS Garden Design Awards recognise the best-of-the-best
in outdoor landscaping. The highly coveted award program offers
Gold, Silver and Bronze accolades to designers, in addition to a
student and industry association award. The winners are announced
on the first day of the show so you
Debco Avenue of Achievable Gardens
Horticulture students from Swinburne University, Chisholm, NMIT
and Holmesglen will be creating small scale gardens at the Debco
Avenue of Achievable Gardens. Each garden is an interpretation of
a theme and DIY cards are available for visitors to recreate each
garden in their own backyard.
RMIT Student Floral Fashion Design Competition
The RMIT Student Floral Fashion Design Competition is held each
day in the Great Hall of Flowers. Leading design students from RMIT
University (Victoria) will compete in transforming flora into fashion
in a themed challenge that will amaze viewers. The designs are so
brilliant youll be stunned to see how plants and flowers can
be used to create wearable art.
Live Floral Student Design Competitions
The Live Floral Student Design Competitions, taking place on Wed
30th March, will bring exceptional talent together to go head-to-head
in a short floral design challenge, creating floral masterpieces
under the watchful gaze of onlookers. Stop by to see how these amazing
creations come together.
Sculpture Garden
The show isnt just about floral and landscaping displays.
Find inspiration at the outdoor Sculpture Exhibition featuring works
of art created in a wide range of media by emerging and established
sculptors. Each piece is available for purchase. Take a piece of
the show home with you and add a centrepiece to your garden! The
exhibition is organised by the Association of Sculptors of Victoria.
Art Exhibition
Creative minds will be pleased to see the indoor art exhibition
as a number of Victorias finest Art Societies will exhibit
and sell artwork inspired by nature. View the detailed pieces, meet
the artists and take a piece home.
Disney Fairies Childrens Garden
Budding green thumbs will be entertained at the Disney Fairies Childrens
Garden with activities including face painting and art stations.
Official Charity
The official charity partner of the show, The Alannah and Madeline
Foundation, will awaken childrens imaginations with their
3D Enchanted Garden in the Royal Exhibition Building and the butterfly
enclosure in the Childrens Garden.
Live Entertainment
Be entertained by the roaming entertainers whose talents will be
sure to bring a smile to everyones face.
