First The Road to Ellerslie TV show screens next week

A visit to Hurunui’s Flaxmere Garden, a chat with Christchurch landscape designer Erik Ellis and practical lessons on how to make a vegetable patch are key features of the first The Road to Ellerslie – in the Garden City episode screening next Saturday (27 December).

The Road to Ellerslie – in the Garden City is a 13-week television series screening on TV1 on Saturdays at 9.30am.

Ellerslie International Flower Show managing director Dave Mee says each week the television show will follow designers as they prepare to take part in the first Christchurch-hosted Show, as well as visiting Canterbury’s award-winning and nationally significant gardens, promoting sustainability, offering gardening tips and showcasing new plants and gardening products.

“This Saturday’s show takes viewers through Penny Zino’s North Canterbury country garden designed for all seasons, we also meet Erik Ellis who shows us a challenging Sumner garden he designed and we talk about his exhibition garden for Ellerslie before Lynda Hallinan provides practical advice on how to design a vegetable garden.

“Tony Murrell introduces viewers to the concept of sustainability and Heather Tait-Collins talks about the special Hebe Turkish Delight.”

In episode two, Mr Mee says viewers will visit Taunton Gardens at Governors Bay; head to the Christchurch Botanic Gardens to meet with two young designers who have designed the city’s exhibition garden for the Show; Lynda Hallinan will talk about how to grow and pick flowers; while Tony Murrell will give practical advice on composting.

“It is fantastic to be able to share with all New Zealand the trials and tribulations of the designers as they prepare for Ellerslie, in the build-up to Ellerslie in Christchurch’s North Hagley Park from 11 to 15 March 2009.”
