Assessments
SPELADD can make an appointment for you with a trained and
experienced assessor who will use a number of specialised tests to
determine your/your child's areas of strength and weakness in a
number of areas related to learning. This will determine if a
SPELADD tutor may be able to help and what underpinning areas will
need to be targeted.
The SPELADD assessment takes 1.5-2 hours and parents are
encouraged to attend with their child. Unfortunately, as we receive
no government funding we must charge the following fees.

Tutoring
A SPELADD assessment may recommend you/your child have one or
more years with a tutor. The office is able to assign you a SPELADD
trained tutor who will work with your child, usually for an hour a
week.
Most parents find a time early morning or during school hours
works best for younger students and schools are generally happy to
allow a child to have time off school for this. Many schools allow a
tutor to come and work with a child in the school. If a child does
not want tuition in school time try for before or after school.
All our tutors are certificated teachers and have also undergone
a 75 hour training course and have completed a written assignment in
the area of specific learning disabilities. The general charge is
$20 a lesson, $25 if transport is involved for the tutor. Sometimes
subsidies are available from the SPELADD office for those on limited
incomes. |
