Specific learning disability

This may be related to the way I see or hear things and mean I have trouble with school work and adjusting socially.

A detailed assessment and tutoring can pinpoint and go a long way to remedy those underpinning difficulties and bring success back within grasp.

 


 

WHAT ARE THE WARNING SIGNS OF SLD?

There are many common characteristics that the bright person who is a poor
learner may have. If there are only a few, the learner is not necessarily learning
disabled, since most people show some of these characteristics at different stages of
their development. Look for a constellation of these symptoms - they may have
several. Problems may range from subtle to severe.

1. Knows something one day but has forgotten it the next.

2. Not good at taking a message or listening in a group (auditory closure).

3. Cannot remember instructions.

4. Pronunciation problems.

5. Immature speech.

6. Slow processing. Is slow to answer but is correct if given time.

7. Cannot follow rules.

8. Seems naughty, lazy. Class clown or fades into the background.

9. Easily confused by instructions.

10. Poor phonologicl/Vphonemic awareness.

11. Cannot learn from whole language approach.

12. Reads well orally but has poor comprehension.

13. Can verbalize well but cannot write it down.

14. Only sees part of a word, or leaves words out of sentences (poor visual closure).

15. Accident prone, clumsy. Inability to plan for body space.

16. Dislikes competitive games.

17. Untidy, late, gets lost.

18. Disorganized work habits.

19. Reverses spoken and/or written words, numbers or letters.

20. Finds problem solving difficult.

21. Sloppy writing.

22. Poor pencil position.

23. Slow, unfinished school and/or homework.

24. Poor copying.

25. Poor setting out of work on paper.

26. Poor logic.

27. Short attention span.

28. Difficulty in telling time or poor judgement of time (either early or late).

29. Low frustration or tolerance level.

30. Poor social skills.

31. Few or no friends.

32. Social immaturity (does not read body language).

33. Selection of younger playmates or solitary play.

34. Over-reaction - poor inhibitory control.

35. Hyperactive - hypoactive.

36. Low achievement in some areas, high in others.

37. Not good at tests or exams.

38. Impulsive - does not think of consequences.

39. Developmentally delayed.

40. Invades space or is standoffish.

41. Easily led or gullible.

42. Mixed dominance or hand preference.
