For the week of:2nd May 2007

WHAT?S BEEN HAPPENING?:

Still experiencing some good mild weather, although cooler temperatures. Time to think about wrenching trees now, to shift over winter. It gives the tree time to form fiberous roots, that helps it get established in it's new position. Plenty of mothers day presents in our gift shop, and plants, especially Cyclamen, good colour over the winter. We have garden vouchers if you can't choose, or have a mother out of town. Its easy to post, a nationwide voucher. Still plenty of bulbs in stock, Daffodils and Tulips for spring flowering. Lilies, Asiatic and Orienntal for summer and over Christmas. New stock Cast iron out door chiminea's (fire place) for the Barbeque area, not that we are eating outside just now. Make sure you have some frost cloth ready for those frost tender plants, such as daisies and lemon trees. It protects plants from 5degree frost. Hedges are getting a trim up now. Our hedge at Lorneville is a yearly job. A little and often it's easier on the hedge and the clean up gang. New seasons seed potatoes have arrived. Somewhat early, but good for the keen early tunnel house growers. Some grow potatoes all year..

WHAT SHOULD YOU BE DOING?:
Ordering new seasons, Roses and Rhododendrons. Shelter trees will be in this month, we have an open ground, sawdust bed, at Lorneville, bulk buying at the best prices. Make sure you order ahead of time we'll have them ready when you come to town. Don't forget mother this mothers day, May 13th, we have something for every mum. She might even appreciate a day out, a visit to Diacks. Good winter gardening.
