WHAT’S BEEN HAPPENING?:

Welcome back gardeners. There has been plenty of heat this week with a few drops of rain to keep the dust down. There should be plenty of growth now especially on the fruit trees that are developing fruit. The roses will need a dead head and maybe a light prune to get rid of black spot and encourage new growth and buds for the autumn. Plenty of water and fertiliser is required.
Best sales this week have been in sprinklers and irrigation systems. We have soak hoses and water timers, In fact all the information and equipment to water your plants.
Vege gardens are changing with the New Year. New potataoes are being dug and eaten now with seed potatoes being planted again for maturity at Easter. Plenty of room now to plant some winter maturing veges like Leeks, Brussel Sprouts, Savoy Cabbage, and Cauliflower.
Flower gardens are looking a bit tired with the heat. Marigolds are about the best now. Best trees at the moment are Crabapples (Malus) .They are starting to fruit now and are great for attracting birds. New shrubs in stock are Calluna's and Erica's. Great colour for autumn and winter and good ground cover for low growing areas.
