Herb
of the Week for 13th February
Sage Wisdom by Lynn Kirkland
Positive thinking is so important in everything we do and when I realised
that this Friday was the 13th I thought twice about even mentioning Black
Friday.
However I then thought that it was actually an ideal time to talk about
a special herb and how it can be used to dispel negative energy or gloomy
moods.
The herb belongs to the Salvia family which is the family of sages.
In the language of flowers sages mean wisdom and it is interesting that
sages contain antioxidants which are known to be great for ant ageing.
Native American Indians have used white sage, salvia apiana, for clearing
negative energies for generations.
The process is called smudging and it involves lighting a smudge stick made
from while sage or just placing a few leaves in a fire proof container and
lighting them.
I use a terracotta saucer and light about three good sized leaves. They
go out by themselves and smoulder away and the purifying smoke is then used
to clear a room of negative energy.
It certainly has a very cleansing effect and is well worth trying.
White sage has very tough leaves full of resin and grows to a sturdy bush.
Plants can be difficult to source but I see Kings Seeds have it listed.
Ask at your local garden centre.
So another wonderful gift from the world of herbs is the white sage, a herb
to dispel any negative thoughts associated with Black Friday.
