Groundwork Newsletter - March 2009
and Autumn arrives...

Dear John,

Welcome to the Autumn issue of Groundwork.

"Laughter is the best medicine "it may be an old saying, but I think it's particularly relevant now, especially with the deluge of bad news confronting us every day. If you need a laugh check out one of my favorite skits on you tube.

In this issue Wally Richards looks at what Autumn holds for gardeners and discusses how to make your money stretch further in the garden and we profile Second Nature, a specialist landscape construction and maintenance company. For those of you in the swimming pool industry you must check out the Splash expo information being held in late July, a must attend event.

Happy reading and if you have any comments or feedback, please contact us.

Autumn gardening
March is a great time to get in the garden according to expert Wally Richards.

In this latest article, Wally offers a wealth of advice on what to plant at this time of the year and how you can ensure you will reap a great crop of winter vegetables.

March is also the pefect time to attend to your lawns, whether it's sowing a new one or tidying up your existing patch.

Stretching your dollar in the garden

Gardening, or more to the point, growing as many of your own fruit and vegetables as you can, is one way to off-set the times when your dollar has to stretch further. Most readers aged around their sixties will remember growing up at a time when our parents were very conscious of hard times. In many cases we have memories of big vegetable gardens, fruit trees, chickens in their runs, baking, bottling, preserves and jam-making. There was no waste, everything was used, and the expression of the day was: 'Waste not, Want not'.  To read Stretching your dollar in the garden click here

Landscape designers need to have the confidence that the realisation of  their design will take place without their vision being compromised

To ensure this, Second Nature has brought together a team of talented and professional landscape practitioners.

Company principal Chris Ballantyne says the commitment to quality and the combination of integrity and experience of the practitioners ensures quality outcomes are achieved.

"We have the ability to work with both architectural detail or concept designs, to ensure that design detail, programme and budget are closely adhered to."

"The vision of the designer and client is faithfully followed, with effective solutions found to design issues in the case of less detailed concepts" he said."

As the creation of a landscaped garden often represents a significant investment by the client, it is now more important than ever for there to be an informed, regular maintenance programme to protect its inherent value and to keep the original concept fresh and well presented.
