Kay Baxter and Bob Corker

This book is about re-creating 'culture', about getting back into relationship with our bodies and our environment. This book is about nourishing food, about the internal as much as the external. This is a very exciting journey... it is our journey!!!

Kay Baxter was a co-founder of the Koanga Institute and is renowned for her gardening skills and knowledge of New Zealand heritage food plants. Kay has recently turned her attention to growing 'nutrient dense' food and applying the philosophy of the Weston A. Price Foundation to New Zealand foods and culture. This book is a weave of all of these threads, and Kay's skills in the kitchen.

Bob Corker was a co-founder of the Koanga Institute, and has worked for 25 years as an Environmental Consultant and Permaculture Designer. He has used this background to outline the 'science behind the vision of this book.

2 Maioro to Manukau Heads - A Botanical Journey Through Awhitu District
Tricia Aspin

Paperback, 208 pages, 210 x 295mm, NZ, 2008. $65

>From the cover -

An illustrated account of Awhitu Ecological District, covering flowering plants, conifers, ferns and fern allies, as well as some mosses, liverworts, lichens, fungi and macroalgae - includes some geology and history, a species catalogue and noteworthy trees.

The title Tricia chose for this work not only describes the botany of the area covered but is a reflection of the moves from her childhood home to that of adulthood..... It is but a record of a segment of time captured and rendered static on paper. Much joy has been had in the observation of plants encountered along the way. They and the occasional peek at some of nature's small creatures are the milestones on that journey. For her the sojourns will continue as nature's garden is ever-changing and full of new discoveries. The more one learns the more one realises how much is still to be learned.
