WHATS
BEEN HAPPENING?:
Shorest day at the end of the week, and so far the winter
has been kind to us, but as we all know July can be cold. Time to plant the garlic
and shallots this weekend. There's still a few broadbeans being planted and onions.
We have some good strawberry plants ready now, so the strawberry patch could have
a tidy up and with my luck you might get christmas strawberries. Best sales this
weekend are roses, our final supply has arrived and are being potted this minute,
so all will be for sale by the weekend. If you have an order in, it will be ready
to collect. Shelter trees are ready too our sawdust bed at Lorneville is full
of openground trees, pines, poplars, willows, bulk buying at the best prices.
On special at lorneville flowering cherries at half price and pots 50% off so
take a drive out to lorneville for some bargains, take a trailer. Polyanthus are
looking good, plenty of colour not there's a few pansies good for pots. Still
some lily bulbs and peonys for sale now. We've had some new bird feeders and tables
(for feeding wild birds) . There's always a demand at this time of year from people
who want to encourage the Native birds into their gardens. To attract the birds
crabapples are excellent food for birds over winter.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BE
DOING?:
Check your lawn for moss and grassgrub. Tidy the garden shed and do
any maintainence of lawn mowers and tools. Sharpen secateurs and hedge and edge
trimers. Come down to diacks and buy seed potatoes, get them into trays to sprout
for an early crop. Have another month off, see you in august.
