WHATS BEEN HAPPENING?:
Big weekend at Diacks on Tweed, we are celebrating our centennial, 100 years of growing in southland. We have over 25 suppliers in store to answer your questions and display their product. We have got all sorts of prizes to win and give aways, soo look out for our advert in the weekend express and the southland times. We are looking foreward to seeding you. It's the peak of the season and all our plants are at their best, so make sure you plant out a vege garden this year. Tomato plants are also looking strong, we have all sortd and sizes from the cherry size to the big beef, some grafted and some seedlings. Seed potatoes are selling mostly main crops now, we still have most varieties except, Heather and Desiree. Annuals are looking good, we have a good stock of Lobelia, Pansys, Petunias ready now. Time to get the baskets out and planted now. Roses are looking lush at the moment, in full leaf and budding up and we have a new supply of flower carpet white and scarlet. We had another load of peastraw arrive last week, so plenty on hand at the moment.
WHAT SHOULD YOU BE DOING?:
Visiting us at the weekend is a must, this will be our biggest and best

RECIPE OF THE WEEK:
Red Cabbage Recipe
Ingredients
* medium head red cabbage, cored
* 1 onion, chopped
* 1 T oil
* 1 c water
* dash salt
* 3 T vinegar
* 3 T sugar
* 1 T flour
Directions
Shred the cabbage into strips about ¼" by 1 or 2 inches. Chop
onion; heat oil in medium sized pot; cook onion until soft. Add cabbage,
water, and salt; cover and simmer on very low heat about 30-40 minutes
until limp but not mushy. [There should be very little water left at this
point. If theres more than a few tablespoons present, drain most
of it off, either reserving it for soup or discarding it.] Finish by stirring
in vinegar and sugar. Taste test to see if it needs more salt/sugar/vinegar.
Sprinkle flour across cabbage while quickly blending to avoid lumping.
Turn up heat and cook, stirring, until thickened.
